About the Area...
We’ve listed some useful links for you to check out, and there’s more suggestions on things to do, but we’ve also included some information on the area itself to give you a little more knowledge on Llangynog and the Tanat Valley before you start your stay with us here at River’s Nest.
The village of Llangynog nestles at the foot of the Berwyn Mountains in a dramatic setting at the junction of the Rivers Eirth and Tanat, overshadowed by the craigy slopes of Craig Rhiwarth. Both the Church and village are named after Saint Cynog, a son of King Brychan, progenitor of a noted family of Celtic Saints.
Once a leading producer of finest welsh slate today this picturesque little village offers peace and tranquillity to all who come here, although you can still enjoy the vibrancy of village life with traditional welsh songs sang round the piano on most Saturday nights at the New Inn .
Discover the beauty and peace of St. Melangell’s Church at Pennant Melangell. Remotely hidden at the edge of the valley this ancient shrine church sits peacefully within its ancient churchyard in the heart of the Berwyn's. The pilgrimage church with its Romanesque shrine and remote (bronze age) site are steeped in history. Four heritage yews stand in silent witness in the churchyard over this special place - truly inspiring.

The Berwyn Mountains are on the outlying sections of Snowdonia, to be found between Bala, Llangollen and Oswestry. They reach a height of 2700 feet (817 metres), with breathtaking views from the top. Because the Berwyns are surrounded by slightly lower ground, there are distant views in every direction, from the Shropshire hills in the east to the heights of Snowdonia to the north west.
If you are looking for a relaxing break in the countryside, then River’s Nest is the place for you. Please contact us if you’d like to make a booking, discuss prices or availability, or just want to request more details.
